  • The Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville was ranked the 50th best hospital in the world and 13th best in the U.S. by Newsweek.
  • Three other Jacksonville-area hospitals were also included in Newsweek’s top hospitals in the U.S. list.

The Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville has been named the 50th best hospital in the world and the 13th best in the U.S. in Newsweek magazine’s annual “World’s Best Hospitals” list.

The magazine named Mayo’s Rochester, Minn., flagship as the globe’s top hospital for the seventh-straight year.

“This continued recognition is a tribute to our dedicated staff who consistently deliver unparalleled, compassionate care to our patients,” said Dr. Gianrico Farrugia, president and CEO of the Mayo health system. “We remain committed to delivering ‘category-of-one’ experiences for each patient who seeks our care while simultaneously working to transform healthcare to enable more care and more cures to reach more people.”

Did other Jacksonville-area hospitals make Newsweek’s 2025 list?

Yes, three other area hospitals were included in the magazine’s top hospitals in the United States. Baptist Medical Center Beaches was No. 231, Ascension St. Vincent’s Clay County was No. 386 and Baptist Medical Center Jacksonville was No. 391.

How does Newsweek compile the annual rankings?

About 2,400 hospitals in 30 countries were ranked this year, including the best 250 worldwide. The ranking is based on an online survey of 85,000 doctors, hospital managers and health care professionals; patient experience data; hospital quality metrics such as patient safety and quality of care; and Patient-Reported Outcomes Measures, which are questionnaires for patients “to measure their perception of their functional well-being and quality of life,” according to Newsweek.

How can such rankings help patients?

According to global data platform Statista, the number of hospitals worldwide is projected to reach 215,977 by 2026.

“Few decisions carry more weight than selecting a hospital for yourself or a loved one. This choice is often made while feeling unwell or after a stressful diagnosis — making it all the more difficult,” according to Newsweek. “That’s why ready information about where world-class medical care is available can make all the difference in ensuring the best possible outcomes.”

How do other best-hospital lists rank Mayo in Jacksonville?

U.S. News & World Report’s latest “Best Hospitals” ranking listed Jacksonville’s Mayo Clinic as the best hospital in Florida. The magazine has given the hospital the top ranking in the state for eight of the last 10 years.

Also, Healthgrades, an online resource that provides information about health care facilities and physicians, included the local Mayo Clinic in its America’s 50 Best Hospitals list. And Mayo is consistently top rated in annual patient safety rankings issued by the Leapfrog Group, a national health care watchdog organization.
