Cleveland Clinic ranked No. 2 hospital in the world for seventh year in Newsweek 2025 rankings

CLEVELAND, Ohio — The Cleveland Clinic was ranked as the No. 2 hospital in the world for the seventh consecutive year, according to Newsweek’s World’s Best Hospitals 2025 list.

“This recognition is a direct reflection of our 83,000 caregivers, who form the heart and soul of our global organization,” said Cleveland Clinic CEO and President Dr. Tom Mihaljevic. “Their dedication, compassion and commitment to excellence are the pillars of Cleveland Clinic care.”

The Clinic also ranked No. 2 on Newsweek’s list of the top U.S. hospitals, released Friday.

Among top U.S. hospitals, the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, was ranked first, followed by the Clinic. Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore (3), Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston (4) and Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center in Los Angeles rounded out the top five U.S. hospitals in Newsweek’s rankings.

University Hospitals’ main campus had a ranking of 36 on the Newsweek list of top U.S. hospitals, and ranked 221 on the worldwide list.

Newsweek partnered with Statista to compile the annual World’s Best Hospitals rankings, which are based on data from hospitals in 30 countries. Data was collected from more than 85,000 medical experts globally; publicly available data on patient experience and hospital quality metrics; and patient-reported surveys, Newsweek said.

When it came to Newsweek’s ranking of more than 400 top U.S. hospitals, seven Northeast Ohio medical systems earned rankings:

Cleveland Clinic (2), University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center (36), Clinic Fairview (37) Cleveland Clinic Akron General (81), Clinic Hillcrest (92), Clinic Avon (299) and MetroHealth System main campus (302).

The Clinic’s Weston hospital in Florida was ranked 48th among U.S. hospitals.

Hospitals in Cleveland, Toronto among the best worldwide

Newsweek also ranked the top 250 hospitals worldwide. On this list, the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, was ranked first, followed by the Clinic and a Toronto hospital. The Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore (4), and a Swedish hospital (5) completed the top five hospitals worldwide.

Also on the list of top hospitals worldwide were Clinic Abu Dhabi (172), UH Medical Center (221), Clinic Fairview (225) and the Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center (245).

Clinic Abu Dhabi was ranked the No. 1 hospital in the United Arab Emirates.
